IVI room

An intravenous infusion or injection is needed when the patient:

  • Cannot ingest: for example vomiting or unconscious thus cannot swallow
  • Cannot digest
  • Cannot absorb
  • Has excessive losses

With a drip, the fluids and/or medication is administered directly into the blood thus bypasses the digestive system.

Types of drips:

  • Acute Gastro: vomiting and/or diarrhoea
