IVI room
An intravenous infusion or injection is needed when the patient:
- Cannot ingest: for example vomiting or unconscious thus cannot swallow
- Cannot digest
- Cannot absorb
- Has excessive losses
With a drip, the fluids and/or medication is administered directly into the blood thus bypasses the digestive system.
